Tonia's Lanai
— Reimagined

Turn that big empty birdcage into a sun-warmed country porch — a shady rocker nook by the doors, a picnic-table room open to the trees, and blooms, flags & birdsong all around.

Step 1 · The Plan

A Bird's-Eye Look at Your Lanai

Drawn to match your real space — the covered nook by the sliding doors, the tall open room out toward the woods, your rose & ixora beds, and the run where the neighbor peeks through.

Step 2 · The Vision

Zone by Zone — Everything, Placed

Every wish on your list, put exactly where it belongs in your real lanai — and why it works there.

Covered Rocker Nook

the shady spot by the sliding doors
1
Outdoor swivel rocking chairs, small table & a rug underneath. Right under the solid roof overhang by the sliding-glass doors — the one truly shaded spot, so you can rock with morning coffee out of the Florida sun. The rug warms up that big empty tile into a real "room."
2
Hanging flower baskets. Off the overhang beams and the arched entry so blooms greet you the second you step out the doors.
3
Hanging American flag. Mounted on the post at the nook corner by the arched entry — front-and-center, waving as you come and go.
4
Potted plants. A cluster flanking the sliding doors and arched entry to soften all that stucco.
5
Strong overhead lights. Carry the string lights across the overhang so the nook glows after sunset — picking up where your left-side lights already leave off.

Open Screened Room

the tall, breezy room open to the woods
1
Picnic table with an umbrella. Centered on the open tile under the high peak — not under the covered part — so meals face straight out into the green preserve. The umbrella adds shade where the roof doesn't reach.
2
Cute bird feeders. Hung on the screen frame on the woods side, so you'll watch cardinals and finches against the trees right from the table.
3
Strong lights along the top. String lights zig-zagged across the peak of the cage — that tall frame is made for it, and it turns dinner into a glowing evening.
4
A few more hanging baskets. Clipped to the cage crossbars to bring color up into all that open height.

The Perimeter Garden Beds

building on the roses you already have
1
Garden beds with flowers. Your existing roses & ixora along the screen base are the bones — fill the gaps with bright country annuals (marigolds, zinnias, geraniums) for all-summer color.
2
Keep the burgundy ti plants. Those cordylines on the left already add that deep-red pop — we design around them, not over them.
3
Potted plants at the corners. Cluster pots where the tile meets the beds and around the spa, so the whole perimeter reads lush.

The Privacy-Screen Run

on the left, where the neighbor peeks through
1
Lanai privacy screen. Along the left/front run where the neighbor's house shows through the screen. A roll-down or fixed panel there closes off the one open sightline without darkening the rest of the cage — and doubles as a green backdrop for feeders and baskets.
Step 3 · The Colors

A Bright, Country Palette

Sunny and cheerful with a barn-red anchor — the Hobby-Lobby-meets-front-porch feeling, pulled into six hues.

Step 5 · The Order

Let's Phase It

No need to do it all at once. Here's what gets you cozy this weekend — and what to layer in after.

this weekend

Weekend One — Instant Cozy

  • Lay the rug & set the rockers under the covered overhang with the little table between.
  • Finish the string lights — extend what's already started across the nook.
  • Hang the flag at the nook corner — a five-minute win with big charm.
  • Drop in 4–5 potted plants & a couple baskets for instant color while beds fill in.
a little later

Phase Two — The Full Vision

  • Add the picnic table & umbrella in the open room once you've picked the size.
  • Hang the privacy screen on the left run to close the neighbor sightline.
  • Plant out the beds with country annuals around your existing roses & ti plants.
  • Mount the bird feeders on the woods side and top off the peak lighting.
